The symbol of the eye represents the layers and ways of seeing and understanding through body and soul. Cast in bronze and used in a series of conceptual fountains, the ancient symbol becomes a vessel and expression of collective mourning. Over time the piece will be marked by the patina of the flowing water, the streaks of symbolic tears permanently traced. The tower of stacked eyes rooted in the earth, references Brancusi’s war memorial Endless Column and its connection to the idea of the “Axis Mundi” or center of the world. Arranged in pyramid form, the all-seeing eye of Providence is conjured. In each iteration water flows upward from a subterranean source and is wept down representing sacred, cosmic, and mythic continuum: the cyclical nature of experiences, memory, emotion, and energy.
